Hello friends, in today's blog we will discuss about the city of Lord Shiva i.e. Banaras i.e. in the city of Kashi. Due to the northern channel of Ganga in Kashi, the half-moon shaped row of ghats makes it as beautiful as Chandrahar of Kashi, 84 historical places situated on the banks of Mother Ganga. We will tell you in detail one by one about the oldest ghat and the first ghat of Banaras. One of the historical places to visit in Varanasi is Adi Keshav Ghat.

It is believed that on the orders of Lord Shiva, when Lord Vishnu first came to Kashi, he came to this ghat and installed his own statue on this ghat. Presently this statue is installed in Adikeshava temple. Due to which the ghat was named Adikeshav Ghat. Being situated at the confluence of Ganga and Varuna, it is also called Ganga-Varuna Sangam Ghat. Apart from Adi Keshav, Gyan Keshav, Sangameshwar Shiva Chintaharan Ganesh, Panchdevta and another Shiva temple are established on the ghat. 

It is believed that Sangameshwar Shivalinga was established by Brahma himself. According to Matyasyapuran, this ghat is ranked among the five major ghat pilgrimages of Kashi and is considered to be the first Vishnu pilgrimage of Kashi. In this context, it is believed that when Lord Vishnu came to Kashi, he washed his feet on the banks of Ganga.

Adi means "origin" and the word Keshava is a form of Lord Vishnu. This temple is one of the ancient temples of Kashi.

In the eleventh century, the kings of Garhwal dynasty had built the Adikeshav temple and ghat. It is believed that as per the condition, Lord Brahma handed over the throne of Kashi to Devdas, a resident of Brahmalok, and the gods had to go to Mandarachal mountain. Lord Shiva was very distressed by this because Kashi was very dear to him. He sent all the gods to Kashi so that they could get them back, but the gods who came here remained here. Ultimately defeated, he told his pain to Lord Vishnu and Lakshmi and requested them to get him back to Kashi. Lord Vishnu along with Goddess Lakshmi came to the confluence of Varuna and Ganga in Kashi. 

This place is also known as Vishnu Padodak due to Lord Vishnu's feet falling here. After taking bath here, Lord Vishnu incorporated the Tailekya Vyapani idol and established an idol of his own shape made of black stone and named it Adi Keshav. After that he went to Devdas in Brahmalok and sent him to Shivlok and got Shivji back to Kashi city. Said - Avimukt Amritkshetrayeye Archanatyadi Keshavam Te Mrityatvam Bhajantyo Sarva Dukkha Vivarjitam, that is, whoever worships our Aadi Keshav form in the nectar form Avamukt Kshetra Kashi will be free from all sorrows and will attain the state of immortality.
